AbbVie expands Oxford R&D facility with £120m investment

AbbVie invests over £120 million in its Oxford research centre, enhancing capabilities in immunology and oncology following the acquisition of DJS Antibodies.
AbbVie has announced a £120 million investment to expand its research and development facility in Oxford, UK. The expansion, referred to as 'AbbVie Oxford', covers 12,000 square feet and aims to broaden the company's research capabilities in the fields of immunology, neuroscience, and oncology.
This facility builds upon capabilities acquired through the 2022 purchase of the Oxford-based biotechnology company DJS Antibodies. The investment is designed to support research focused on identifying new disease targets and combination therapies for areas with significant unmet medical needs.
AbbVie collaborates with more than 100 UK universities and research organizations annually, and this expansion includes increased partnerships with academic institutions such as the University of Oxford. One such partnership investigates how patients with specific inflammatory diseases respond to treatments throughout the course of their illness, with the goal of guiding future drug development.
The announcement follows a recent agreement between the US and the UK intended to align British medicine prices with US pricing policies under the Trump administration. AbbVie currently employs over 1,100 people across its UK operations, including locations in Oxford, Maidenhead, and Marlow.
